All It Takes for Evil Nations to Prevail Is for Good Nations to Do…What They’re Doing

All it takes for evil nations to prevail is for good nations to do…what they’re doing

Sanctions, have their place. Like speed limit signs have theirs.

However, some won’t obey the speed limit no matter what the fine or sanction—until they see the cop, on the side of the road, with a radar gun, pointed straight at them. Then, suddenly, their foot jerks off the gas, and they obey every law in the land.

For laws to work—there must be law enforcement.

The bully that wants to push you to the ground, take your seat on the bus, and steal your lunch, won’t listen to talk about losing his allowance. He will, however, understand, a punch in the nose.

But who should be the one to stand up to the bully?

The offended should stand up to the offender.

Like America in her infancy, when she heard the cry, “the British are coming, the British are coming.” Farmers and fisherman, store keepers and preachers, armed themselves with pitchforks and shovels, sticks and rocks and muskets. Out from behind every tree, rock, nook and cranny, they stepped and stood, shoulder to shoulder, against the world’s largest army…and prevailed.

Kind of like Ukraine, today. Farmers and fisherman, store keepers and preachers, armed with rifles and rocks and poor man’s grenades (Molotov cocktails)They’re standing night and day against a military five times their size and ten times their budget.

In the hour of darkness and peril and need,
The people will waken and listen to hear
The hurrying hoof-beats of that steed,
And the midnight message of Paul Revere.

Paul Revere’s Ride
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - 1807-1882

But sometimes it’s not enough. Sometimes you just need help. Someone to come in and stand by your side.

America offered to evacuate Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Had we offered to stand with him and fight, the offer would have been accepted, but to tuck tail and run; he refused. Said he’d stay with his country, with his people, and fight.

In a passionate plea he asked the world for help and closed with the words, “this might be the last time you see me alive.”

To make it clear, that he knew he was standing alone; he unfriended every world leader. Now his twitter account reads:

It’s understandable that no nation wants to send their citizens, their family, to die for the sake of another nation, especially a nation they have no ties to, no relationship with. Why would America send our fine men and women to defend, fight, and risk their lives, for a nation, that isn’t exactly our best friend? I'm not even sure if they're an ally.

It's understandable. But it really isn't the issue.

What  if you witnessed a woman being raped? Would you come to her aid? Or just walk away? Would it matter if you knew her? Or if she lived on your block? Would it matter what she believed, how she voted, or the color of her skin?

What if it were a child? Would you intervene? Would you step in and risk life and limb to stop the assault? Or would you want to talk it over, make a new law, see if there would be something someone someday might do?

The answer should be; absolutely, without hesitation, or shadow of a doubt, I would step in, step up and intervene.

Alas, what the answer should be, and what the answer would be, are not one and the same…just ask 6 million Jews, or, 64 million babies or the 200,000 women and children (in America) sold into sex slavery, each and every year.

So, should we intervene in Ukraine?

You're not paying attention. That’s not the right question.

It should not be about a place, person or nation. It especially should not be about fear of upsetting the economic applecart by offending Russia, or China, or Iran, or bully and friends.

It should be about wrong verses right. The question should be: Do we stand against evil?

Period.

All it takes for evil nations to prevail is for good nations to do…what they’re doing

Our battle is not against flesh and blood, country or nation, but darkness, wickedness, evil.

Let’s pray,

Lord Jesus, thank You for loving us, even while we were yet sinners. And, even now, while we’re still sinners.

We know, someday, You’re going to fix this mess we’ve made. Until then, we need You.

As You know, Ukraine is hurting; Russia is attacking. The world is watching.

Father, we ask for Your protection, comfort and healing for the hurting; repentance and confusion on the attacking; and for the rest of us watching, please forgive our apathy and grant us empathy that motivates us into action.

Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:4.
