And He said to me, “Son of man,
Son of man. (ben
adam). The first of 93 times the Lord uses this phrase referring to Ezekiel.
It’s a Hebrew expression meaning, descendant of, nature of, adam (man); a son
of mankind. Simply put, a human being.
However, Jesus refers to Himself 80 times in the
gospels using the phrase The Son of Man.
Not “a” son of man, but The
Son of Man.
Like Daniel 7:13-14 (the only other O.T. book that
mentions the phrase):
13“I
was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man,
coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought
Him near before Him. 14 Then to Him was given dominion and glory
and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve
Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not
pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.”
That’s the Son of Man,
Jesus was referring to.
You see before Jesus was a son of man He was The
Son of God who stood before the Ancient of Days, for God so loved the
world that He sent, His only begotten Son, who was with God and who was God and
who became flesh and dwelt among us, to live sinlessly, and offer Himself as The
One and only Son of Man who could be, not just a sacrificial lamb, but The blameless, sinless, spotless, Lamb of God to take
away the sins of the world.
Whenever, Jesus said, “Son of Man” He preceded it
with the definite article “The Son of Man”.
However, it was never used when
referring to Ezekiel.
Therefore, whenever we see son
of man in Ezekiel, all 93 times, make a note, the Lord is not only talking
to Ezekiel, He’s also talking to you. (If you are a child of a human being).
He said to me... (read
that as if the Lord is talking directly to you).
1 ...stand
on your feet, and I will speak to you.”
Ezekiel had fallen on his face at the sudden appearance
of the glory of the Lord.
Which was the appropriate response, at
the moment, but not forever.
God is not an ego tripping rockstar looking for fawning
fans but a loving Father on a rescue mission to save His family.
So, when He shows up, we fall, but then He says, stand.
Yes, we’ve sinned, wasted years, made a mess; should be
further aong than we are.
Nevertheless, God shows up and says, “Get up.”
“Yeah, but God, You don’t understand. I haven’t been a
very good husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter. Everything is such a—”
“I see the dysfunction in your family. Stand.”
“It’s not that easy my health—”
“Get up!”
“I would but my finances are—”
“Stand on your
feet.”
On your feet. Nobody can do it
for you. It’s personal, between you and Him.
When God shows up, He tells you to stand.
Make no mistake, He does show up, to everyone on
the planet. He stands at the door of hearts, and knocks. Every. Single.
One.
So, when (not if) God shows up, He tells
you, stand.
Stand? What’s that look
like?
We begin by standing-up
three unshakable, unmovable, pillars. Three absolutes our life revolves
around.
1. Prayer.
Every day. Intentional. Purposeful. Talking and listening.
2. Bible
reading. Every day. Intentional. Purposeful. Medicine works
whether we understand it or not.
3. Church
that is Praying, Bible Teaching, Preaching, Truth telling (especially, hard,
unpopular, un-politically correct Truth).
Be so involved in the
family God put you in that when you miss, you’re missed. Pay attention. If someone
misses, you check up on them.
Start there, stay there, be faithful there. Be ready
because God will speak to you. He will give you something to do.
If you do it, as unto Him, He will give you more. Do
the next thing... then, the next.
You’ll never run out of things to do, no matter the
circumstance you’ll have His joy, and you’ll never be bored.
In the end you’ll hear God say, “Well done.”
Stand therefore, and having done all,
stand. Eph. 6:13
2 Then the Spirit entered me when He spoke to me, and set me on my feet; and I heard Him who spoke
to me.
His Word comes alive, strengthening and
personal.
In Ezekiel’s day it was selective and rare for the
Spirit to enter a person. They were chosen vessels the Lord used as His
voice.
Now, the indwelling and infilling of the Holy
Spirit is available to all who will repent and receive Him. (Please let
us know if you want to know more).
Then,
the Spirit entered... IF you stand,
stay the course, the Word will go from head to heart. You’ll no longer
just be standing with Jesus, you’ll be standing in Him,
and He in you.
Christian won’t be some thing you do, but
someone you are.
John 14:15-18. 15 “If
you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And
I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He
may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom
the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you
know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I
will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
Then,
in Christ, your feet are set on The Solid Rock.
Then,
instead of life knocking you off your feet. You’ll face the mountain that
seemed insurmountable, the river that appeared uncrossable, that giant that
looked unbeatable; and you’ll find your feet on the ground climbing that
mountain, crossing that river, slaying that giant.
The Word of God will come alive in and through you
showing:
Christ in me the hope of
glory! Colossians 1:27.
I can do all things
through Christ who strengthens me! Philippians 4:13.
I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me! Romans 8:37.
3 And He said to me: “Son of man, I am sending you
to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation...
Son of man, I AM sending you... means,
He is sending you.
In case you doubt and say, “He’s talking about going
to the children of Israel, that’s not me.”
Look closer.
A rebellious nation.
The word for “nation” is goy, (goiim, plural), it refers to gentiles,
and or gentile nations, specifically, heathen gentile nations.
God was saying His people, Israel, were no different than
the heathen gentile nations.
3 ...that
has rebelled against Me; they and their fathers have transgressed against Me to
this very day. 4 For they are impudent and stubborn children. I am sending you
to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’
God is saying, I AM sending you to a nation that once
was once, one nation under God, but now they’re stubborn and rebellious.
They turned from the One True God of their founding fathers.
Sacrificed their children.
Turned to false religions of other nations.
They divided and fought and killed one another.
Just like US.
I AM sending you, to them.
How do you respond?
Will you stand?
Speak Truth?
Like Isaiah?
Like Charlie?
Here I am Lord, send me. Isaiah 6:8
5 As for them, whether they hear or whether they refuse—for they
are a rebellious house—yet they will know that a prophet has been among them.
6 “And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them
nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are
with you and you dwell among scorpions; do not be afraid of their words or
dismayed by their looks, though they are a rebellious house. 7 You
shall speak My words to them, whether they hear or whether they refuse, for
they are rebellious.
Do not fear
them, their words, their looks, or the hard times like briers, thorns and
scorpions.
Speak My Words. Don’t
worry about their response. I watch over My Word. It will not return void but
will prosper.
You plant the Seed. I’ll make it grow.
They will know that a prophet has been
among them. Whether they admit it or not, they will
know, they heard the Truth. So if they rebel, they will be without excuse.
8 But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. Do not be
rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give
you.”
Hear what I say.
Mark 4:23-24. If anyone has ears to hear,
let him hear.” 24 Then He said to them, “Take heed what
you hear. With the same measure you use, it will be measured to you;
and to you who hear, more will be given.
Are you a faithful, prayerful, expectant, active, listener?
If so you will hear personal, powerful, profound Words from God.
The measure you put in is the amount you get
out.
If you are a lazy, apathetic listener... you'll sit in
the same sermon and get nothing but sleepy.
Don't blame God, or the preacher. Do not say the Bible is boring.
It’s not the Seed, it’s the soil.
The same measure you use will be measured
to you.
Man shall not live by bread alone but by
every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4.
John 4:34.
My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish
His work.
We know His will, by His Word.
9 Now when I looked, there was a hand stretched out to me;
It’s just like our Lord. He came, He spoke, He
entered, He lifted and He stretched out His hand, to heal, to hold, to scold, to
feed, to lead... to bleed.
The hand He stretches out to us today, is nail scarred.
The hand that stretched to Ezekiel, didn’t wear scars,
but held a scroll that told all about Him who would soon wear them.
What will you do with The nail scarred hand
reaching out to you?
9 ...and behold, a scroll
of a book was in it. 10 Then He spread it before me; and there was
writing on the inside and on the outside...
The scroll, (the
Word of God), He spread it before me...
Like Psalm 23:5, He prepares a table
before me in the presence of my enemies.
He spread His Word to all
the earth. His heavens declare His glory. Psalm 19:1. Thus all nations (goiim)
are without excuse.
The scroll was
written inside and out. Meaning it was finished.
Nowadays we’d say, it’s
signed, sealed, and delivered.
The scroll was written
inside, then rolled up, sealed and signed outside, like addressing an envelope.
They often titled the scroll, like a book, to advise what was inside, and if appropriate,
name the author and recipient.
10 ...and written on it were lamentations and mourning and
woe.
Lamentations,
mourning and woe.
They were captives, their
nation was in ruins. Jerusalem would soon be reduced to rubble. Lamentation,
mourning and woe lay before them.
God is Love, and Love
tells the Truth, even when it hurts.
Truth
that hurts is medicine that heals, whereas, false flattery, is poison that
kills.
Dear son of man, The Son
of Man, is sending you, to a world full of lamentation, mourning and woe.
Will you go?
They will not listen.
Will you still speak?
They will be rebellious.
Will you still go?
Well, if they won't
listen. Why should I go?
The Lord answers loud and
clear, sixty-five different times throughout the book of Ezekiel:
That they shall
know that I am God.
Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, here we
stand, please speak to us, fill us and send us, so all those You give us will
know that You are God.
Thank You, Lord.
We love You, forever.
Amen.
