It’s been said the Bible is a tale of two cities. Jerusalem
and Babylon. Jerusalem, the city of peace, or city of God. Babylon, the city of
confusion, or city of satan.
Jerusalem and Babylon are the most mentioned cities in the Bible.
Jerusalem about 806 times; 660 in the Old Testament and 146
in the New. There are several more times, Jerusalem is alluded to.
Babylon is mentioned 280 times; about 30 of which are in the
New Testament.
Now the whole earth had one language and
one speech. Genesis 11:1
As a Christian, in love with Jesus, we believe the Bible,
just because we know Him. However, we like it when the world unwittingly,
unwillingly, accidentally, uncovers undeniable proofs that God and His Word is True.
Secular linguists, have discovered that all language comes
from one language. They probably spent years of painstaking research to uncover
that. It took us three seconds and ten words. (Seven in Hebrew).
You can save a lot of time and effort, and be ahead of the
curve, just by believing God’s Word.
In the original text, the word, “speech” actually
means: a word, a matter, thing, a cause.
They not only spoke the same language, they were
singing the same song, preaching the same sermon. They were in agreement, in one
accord.
That sounds like the early Church. They were all with one
accord. Acts 2:1.
So, that’s a good thing?
Maybe. Maybe not. One thing for sure is that it’s a powerful
thing.
2 And it came to pass, as
they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of
Shinar, and they dwelt there.
This is in modern day Iraq. Babylon is about 670 miles east
of Jerusalem; about 50 miles south of Bagdad.
3 Then they said to one
another, “Come, let us make bricks
and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they
had asphalt for mortar.
Here’s another one.
As a Christian, in love with Jesus, we believe the Bible,
just because we know Him. However, we like it when the world uncovers undeniable
proof that God and His Word is True.
In 1899, the German archeologist, Robert Koldewey, began an
18-year excavation of the mud-brick ancient ruins widely believed to be the
ziggurat Tower of Babel. The asphalt used for mortar was also found.
The base of the Tower of Babel, was roughly 300 feet by 300
feet, and over 300 feet high. Imagine a football field in length, width and height.
It was torn down by Alexander the Great in 325 BC.
Unlike traditional Egyptian pyramids, Mesopotamian ziggurats
were step towers that could be built much higher. It is estimated that 17
million mud bricks were used for the seven tiers; which engineers and
architects have determined would be structurally sound and possible to build.
NOTE: Don’t believe Wikipedia which says the tower of babel
is a myth, a parable. Odd how the world only follows the science that follows their
agenda.
4 And
they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a
tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make
a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over
the face of the whole earth.”
Although the brick and mortar were solid and structurally
sound—they were not solid and morally sound.
We know from chapter ten that Nimrod was the ramrod of this operation.
Nimrod means rebel.
Genesis 10:9 tell us he was a mighty hunter before the Lord.
In the original text, “before the Lord” implies, in God’s face. Like an
angry, or arrogant person, gets in your face.
Genesis 10:10-11 tell us the beginning of Nimrod’s kingdom was
Babel, in Shinar, and it extended into Assyria.
Interestingly, Babylon and Assyria, are the two places that attack
and take captive the nation of Israel years later, long after Nimrod is dead
and gone (722; 605 and 586 B.C.).
People die, but the demonic activity of the place lives on, to
this day. Especially against Israel.
Sadam Hussain tried rebuilding Babylon, he fancied himself a
type of Nebuchadnezzar.
Goliath was from Gath, (Gaza).
God’s command was for them to be fruitful and multiply and
fill the earth.
They said, we don’t want to fill the earth, we don’t want to
be scattered. We don’t need God. We just need each other. We can reach the
heavens. We can be like God. Like lucifer’s deception to Eve, “you will be
like God.” Like lucifer’s pride; they thought they could raise their throne
above the Most High.
Look at the self-absorption in their words:
“Come,
let us build ourselves a city, and a
tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make
a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered
abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
That self-focus is still true in this age of the selfie; iphone,
ipad. ipod, I I I.
2 Timothy 3:1 …in the
last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves…
Welcome to your new One World Religion.
The tower of Babel 2.0—23.
Globalism is nothing new.
Man’s first attempt at globalism goes all the way back to
the tower of babel.
The idea never died—it just got scattered.
But, in recent years thanks to the advent of the internet,
the world has gotten a whole lot smaller. Right now, in real time, we can speak
to folks all around the globe. Communication barriers of time and space and even
language, can be bridged with the click of a mouse.
There’s a language app called, Babel.
While preparing this message an ad popped up saying, “Write
like a pro. Perfect your work across three languages simultaneously.”
With selfishness rising and language barriers falling, we’re
at the summit of another Babel. The world calls it wonderful, a gateway to God;
but in reality, it’s a bloody heap built on chaos and confusion.
Babel, in the Babylonian language meant: gateway to God.
However, in Hebrew, Babel means, confusion.
5 But
the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of
men had built. 6 And the Lord said,
“Indeed the people are one and they all have one
language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that
they propose to do will be withheld from them.
They are one in unity, they are one in tongue (language) now
nothing they propose to do will be withheld (impossible, restrained,
inaccessible), to them.
Unity is powerful.
Words are powerful.
God created the world, with words. Jesus is the Word became
flesh. The Bible is the Word of God, alive and powerful and sharp. Christians,
live not by bread, but by the Word of God.
After creating the heavens and the earth and the creatures,
by His Word, God created man in His own image. Then, He said, it’s not good for
man to be alone. So, from Adam’s rib He made Eve and brought her to Adam and
said, be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth, have dominion and subdue it.
The two, united; Adam and Eve, became one. And then three,
and then more, and now about eight billion.
From that day to this the precedent was set, the power of
unity was established. Unite, and fruitfulness and multiplication; authority
and dominion, will follow.
Jesus says it like this:
Matthew 18:19-20.
Again, I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.
For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
John 17:21. Jesus prays that His
people will be one, as He and His Father are one.
Make no mistake; the power of unity cuts both ways.
The silver-tongued devil knows this and unites his people;
and divides God’s.
United we stand, divided we fall.
Have you noticed in America, one party stands together,
votes together, no matter how poorly their programs or candidates perform. The
other party can’t even get on the field; they’re too busy arguing over who’ll
be quarterback, or, speaker.
There are certain groups that stand together united for
climate, or animals, or orientation or identity, or, even as of late… terrorists.
The people of God should be mature enough to have
differences, distinctions, discussions, even heated debates…without division.
We ought to be the picture of unity, the voice of Wisdom and reason.
Lord, help us grow up.
7 Come, let
Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand
one another’s speech.” 8 So the Lord scattered
them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased
building the city. 9 Therefore its name is called Babel, because
there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there
the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.
This was an act of mercy. God spared them from themselves. They
were headed down a dangerous road of globalist wickedness. But God had a plan
to redeem them, by sending His Son, to live and die and rise again, the
spotless Lamb of God, to make us one with Him again.
The power of unity. The devil used it, Jesus taught it, and the
early Church experienced it…
Acts 2:1. They came together united as one,
and the Holy Spirit filled them with boldness, and wisdom, and language the
whole world could understand (Acts2: 2-6). They glorified God to all the
nations (Acts 2:11). The words were so powerful and effective that they multiplied
into 3,000 souls saved that day (Acts 2:41). They continued in unity, and the
Lord worked through them with signs and wonders. Their love was so great that
there was not one among them who lacked; they waxed strong in Spirit and grew
in favor with God and man, and the Lord added to the Church daily those who
were being saved.
Dear Church, that’s who we come from. That’s our foundation,
our ancestry, our mold. What we’re called to look like, who we’re called to be.
Notice God didn't just stop the building of Babel. He
propelled His plan.
Can you relate? It was going so great, building the tower,
climbing the ladder, higher and higher… but then it came undone, it all got
scattered.
They probably blamed God when they should’ve been thanking
Him.
Thank God for stepping in, for showing up, even when,
especially when, we're screwing up. We're building our own ivory tower, in our
name, in arrogance and ignorance and defiance of Him
Intervene God intervene.
They weren't ready for a Nimrod, for a mighty hunter. But
one day one will come. Revelation 6:2 tells of one who’ll come on a white horse
with a bow, and he’ll go like a mighty hunter to conquer; the rebel, this
lawless one, this one world leader, the antichrist.
But God intervenes and calls us Home, before
that Nimrod appears.
2 Thessalonians 2:7-12. The Holy Spirit (in His Church) restrains
evil until He raptures His Church out of the way, and then the antichrist will
be revealed.
That verse, 2 Thessalonians 2:7, contains our marching orders. Until we’re removed, we’re to restrain evil. In the world or in us, we’re to assist the Holy Spirit restraining evil.
Lest you think Babelism is winning, let’s look at the back
of the Book.
Revelation 14:9 “Babylon
is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink
of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”
Revelation 18:2 “Babylon
the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a
prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird!”
Revelation 18:21 “Thus
with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be
found anymore.”
Revelation 21:1-5 “Now I
saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth
had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then
I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven
from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And
I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of
God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His
people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And
God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor
sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have
passed away.”
5 Then He who
sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He
said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father, thank You for intervening in
our lives. Restrain us from evil, and use us to restrain evil in the world
around us. Work though us with never failing Love to lead all You’ve given us,
from falling Babel, to New Jerusalem.
Thank You.
We love You, forever.
Amen.
According
to His promise, we look for a New Heaven, and a New Earth, wherein
righteousness dwells. 2 Peter 3:13.
