Spurling Silver: Soul Hunters Beware! Ezekiel 13:17-23

“Likewise, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own heart; prophesy against them, ¹⁸and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Woe to the women who sew magic charms on their sleeves and make veils for the heads of people of every height to hunt souls! Will you hunt the souls of My people, and keep yourselves alive? ¹⁹And will you profane Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, killing people who should not die, and keeping people alive who should not live, by your lying to My people who listen to lies?”

²⁰‘Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I am against your magic charms by which you hunt souls there like birds. I will tear them from your arms, and let the souls go, the souls you hunt like birds. ²¹I will also tear off your veils and deliver My people out of your hand, and they shall no longer be as prey in your hand. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.

²²“Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and you have strengthened the hands of the wicked, so that he does not turn from his wicked way to save his life. ²³Therefore you shall no longer envision futility nor practice divination; for I will deliver My people out of your hand, and you shall know that I am the Lord.” ’ ”

Set your face against, prophesy against, your people.

Ouch.

Stand against. Speak against. Your own people, family, friends.

As mentioned at the start of this chapter, God doesn’t agree with everybody. He’s not a big teddy bear saying, I’m okay, you’re okay, let’s just hug and coexist.

Jesus says it like this:

Matthew 10:34-36
“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. ³⁵ For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; ³⁶ and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’

We must make sure the Sword that divides, is the Word of God.

Nothing else is worth dividing over.

We must stand with God, with His Word, no matter what our people, our family, our friends, say.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

We must rightly divide that which rightly divides.

To split the Church over things like, the timing of the rapture, a particular Bible translation, the name on the door, the color of the carpet... is stupid, childish, devilish.

But regarding things like:

ü The One and only, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, Perfectly Holy Triune God of the Word,

ü The immutable, inerrant Word of God;

ü The fundamental principles of the Sanctity of Life,

ü Biblical definition of marriage,

ü The Gift of Salvation,

Of those things, and more, there can be no compromise.

Those are hills to die on.

When we stand with the Word of God, we will inevitably stand against, ways of the world... which may look a lot like our own people, family, friends.

Which will put us in positions to have hard, loving, Truth telling, conversations.

If preceded by prayer, seeded with love, grounded in the Word, those conversations will bring restoration and healing.

However, it’s up to them, to receive the restoration and healing.

Their response is not your responsibility.

God offers salvation, restoration and healing to all... few receive it.

No matter what, God is good.

All the time.

God always speaks the Truth in Love.

Even when it hurts.

As children of God, we must aspire to do the same.

Plant the Seed.

Trust His Word.

Leave the results to Him.

Isaiah 55:10-11

For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,
11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Just as Ezekiel was told to prophesy against the false prophets, he was also told to prophesy against the false prophetesses, who prophesy out of their own heart.

Rather than God as their Guide, they were saying and doing whatever was right in their own eyes, following their own fleshly desires.

Which was nothing new. Way back before they ever had an earthly king, they rejected their Heavenly King, and did whatever was right in their own eyes. Deuteronomy 12:8, Judges 17:6, 21:25.

Proverbs 14:12
There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.

In a sense, the same spirit drives the “No Kings” rallies.

They say they march against tyranny, which appears to be right.

Those prophesying out of their own hearts, in Ezekiel’s day,

Those protesting out of their own hearts, in our day.

They don’t know what spirit they are of, don’t know whose side they are on.

In Jesus’ day, some so blinded by hate, stood against, whatever He stood for...

Until they found themselves, standing against God, calling for His crucifixion.

Today, because of hate, many find themselves standing against fundamental Truths of God.

God told Ezekiel to tell them:

Woe to you who hunt the souls of My people, who profane My name.

And for what?

A measly handful of grain, a little bread! (verses 18-19).

For a few fraudulent dollars, a few years in power, for THAT you protect murderers and rapists and child molesters? Gavin Newsom, Tim Walz, Jacob Frey...

For a few votes you willingly slaughter millions of innocent precious babies while still in the womb!

²⁰ Behold, I am against your magic charms by which you hunt souls like birds

Magic charms (pillows KJV): (Hebrew:Keseth): a cushioned band, used only in Ez. 13:18, 20.

The word comes from, the Hebrew word, Kasah, meaning to cover, conceal, hide, clothe; to plump, fill up hollows, (like a cushion or pillow). Which is found in Genesis 7:19: the waters of the flood covered (kasah) the mountains. Also in Genesis 9:23: Noah’s sons covered (kasah)) the nakedness of their father.

Archaeological discoveries reveal an assortment of charms (amulets), wristbands, and soft cushions used in incantations and healing rites, of spiritist, soothsayers, mediums, and the like.

Texts from Mesopotamia describe cloth bands inscribed with spells, wrapped around limbs allegedly to bind spiritual forces.

The Lord, through Ezekiel, rebuked the women who sewed and secured these charms to the arms and heads of souls they ensnared in their web of deception.

Even though they did the same things, these women were worse than the witches.

Why?

Because they pretend to be speak for the Lord. They desecrate His name. They’re wolves in sheep’s clothing, seducing weak, naïve, souls.

Their demons still speak, you’ve heard them saying things like:

Do you need protection? Provision? Peace? Healing? Just send your seed for your need today, and we’ll rush our healing cloth, our anointed anointing oil, our blessed miracle seed straight to your door. Hurry, get your miracle today. While supplies last.

So, according to them, they have God on contract to do a miracle for folks who send them money. No matter the condition of the sender’s heart or the reason for the need. Just send money and we’ll send God.

GOD IS NOT MOCKED AND CANNOT BE PUT IN A BOX.

THE LORD REBUKES YOUR LYING PROPHECY

HE IS NOT YOUR DANCING MONKEY

REPENT!

Beware to you who say, “I have a Word from the Lord for you.” Tread softly, humbly, fearfully, lest you speak from your own heart. Lest you find yourself doing whatever is right in your own eyes.

Worse yet, you false prophets and prophetesses that preach a charmed, cushiony, pillow gospel of hyper grace, without repentance or holiness, or the fear of God, or the fires of hell. Against nothing, for everything. You say everybody goes to heaven, there is no hell, I’m okay, you’re okay, sins okay, let’s just eat, drink and be merry in our sins. Jesus forgives.

BLASPHEMY!

You have birthed a Wordless, faithless, toothless, spineless, shadow of what is supposed to be God’s mighty Power filled, Ekklesia, His glorious Church without spot or wrinkle, standing tall and prevailing strong against the gates of hell and the wiles of the devil.

Thus says the Lord to you...

²⁰...“Behold, I am against your magic charms by which you hunt souls like birds. I will tear them from your arms, and let the souls go free. ²¹I will also tear off your veils and deliver My people from your hand.

THEN YOU SHALL KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD.

But will I know you?

Will you hear the words, “Well done, enter in...”

Or, “Depart from Me, I never knew you.”
