As soon as I read that, I saw a cloud the size of a man’s hand
and thought about Elijah (1 Kings 18 & James 5)
Elijah, a man with
like passions and nature just like us, prayed that it would not rain and it did
not rain for three and a half years, then, he prayed that it would rain and
heaven gave rain and the earth bore fruit.
But, before it
rained, he said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If The LORD is
God, follow Him; if Baal, follow him.” The people answered not a
word. So Elijah challenged them to lay out two bulls on wood and they call on
their gods and he’d call on his God and whoever answered by lighting the wood
was the true God.
We know the story.
The prophets of Baal made fools of themselves crying out to nothing and no
avail. Whereas Elijah had stones laid and a trench built around the wood under
his bull and the wood and trench were filled until saturated with water.
Then Elijah prayed,
“Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God,
and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.”
The fire of the Lord
fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the
dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench (1 Kings 18:37-38).
After the prophets of
Baal were slain, he said to the king, go eat and drink the famine is over for I
hear the sound of an abundance of rain.
Then he prayed. Seven
times he prayed. Seven times he looked toward the sky for any sign of rain.
Nothing but blue skies…until the seventh time. The seventh time there was a
cloud. A small cloud, the size of a man’s hand. That was all he needed. He told
the king, hurry, get prepared or you’ll be caught in the rain.
The drop in
numbers may be small, it may only be one day in many, but it’s all we need to see and
believe and pray, “Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.”
Prepare and preprayer, for I hear an abundance of rain; yes an end to this famine.

Confess your faults one to another, and
pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
The effectual fervent prayer of a
righteous man availeth much.
Elias was a man subject to like
passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it
rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
And he prayed again, and the heaven
gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
Brethren, if any of you do err from the
truth, and one convert him;
Let him know, that he which converteth
the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide
a multitude of sins.
(James 5:16-20)
