The Numbers Don’t Lie...Until They Do.

You may remember, I was pretty excited to think that perhaps the death rate would peak around Passover & Good Friday, and then decline after that.

Multiple posts requested we pray and agree, that week would be a turning point.

I was really excited to see it actually coming to pass. Passover and Good Friday appeared to be the peak, and then the death rate started trending downward.

The timing and symbolism of it had me jumping out of my skin and wondering why the whole world wasn't falling to their knees, saying:
Almighty God, we’re in the middle of a pandemic, yet, we know You are good and did not do this. We also know You are wise and have used this, to speak to us. We're listening. Please, forgive our sins, heal our hearts and heal our land.

But, alas, that didn't happen. No one seemed to notice. Except perhaps, someone that I wish never did.

After the death rate peaked and was trending downward, the Cause of Death classification was modified to include COVID-19 when the virus was present, or probable; even if it wasn't the actual cause of death.

That caused the daily death rate on 4.14.20 to jump from 1535 to 6,185.

Well, not entirely. On that very day, New York City decided to add 3,778 additional deaths that had occurred from 3.11.20; deaths classified as "probable," but had no known positive laboratory test for COVID-19.

New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, who may have noticed the timing of the events, and, I don't know, maybe felt threatened, stated: “God didn’t do this…we did this.” (referring to the turn-around in numbers).

The next day, the daily death rate was 2,618. About 1,100 higher than where the trend had dropped before the classification change. The following two days were 2,176 and 2,035.

Thus, the daily death toll graph skyrocketed upward and marred my beautiful picture of how death, hell and the virus, were defeated on the week of Easter (see graph below).

I understand that we don’t want to miscalculate reporting and perhaps it may need to be tweaked from time to time.

But, for someone like me, who’s ever listening for God speaking, the timing of this sounds like screeching.

There’s more going on than a super-germ making folks sick. More than Cuomo’s political grandstanding. Deeper than Pelosi’s, anti-Trump maneuvering. Way beyond Biden's blabbering.

Behind the scenes, there’s a battle raging, growing. It's more real than what we can see with our natural eyes. The stakes are higher than a few weeks in quarantine…they’re for the life of our nation and the eternity of our souls.

Lord, help us to listen, and pay attention.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
